General preparation considerations. Your artist's own written instructions always come first — this page never replaces them.

  • Confirm the appointment time and studio location directly with the studio.
  • Review the artist's actual preparation instructions and follow them.
  • Bring required identification.
  • Eat appropriately beforehand unless a qualified professional has instructed otherwise.
  • Stay reasonably hydrated.
  • Wear clothing that allows comfortable access to the tattoo area.
  • Arrive clean.
  • Do not arrive intoxicated or impaired.
  • Discuss relevant allergies, skin concerns, health conditions and medications with the appropriate licensed healthcare professional, and tell your artist what they need to know.
  • Contact the artist in advance if you are sick, sunburned, injured, or have a skin problem near the tattoo site.
  • Ask the studio directly instead of relying on social-media myths.

Travel-day readiness

The most common reason for a missed or unsafe appointment is not the outbreak fiction — it's ordinary travel-day logistics. Same real preparedness this whole guide covers, applied to one specific trip.

  • Confirm fuel or vehicle charge the night before, not on the way.
  • Charge your phone and, if you have one, a battery bank.
  • Check the route and one alternate; note whether it crosses a bridge-tunnel.
  • Check traffic conditions at 511 Virginia before you leave.
  • Check the forecast at the National Weather Service Wakefield office if weather is a factor.
  • Build in extra travel time — tunnels, bridges and weather all add delay.
  • Save the studio's official contact method offline in your phone.
  • If you're delayed, contact the studio safely — pulled over or before you start driving, never while in motion.
  • Reschedule rather than travel through flooding, closures or unsafe conditions. The studio would rather move your appointment than lose you.

What to expect, and how to keep the session safe for you and for your artist.

  • Follow your artist's instructions throughout the session.
  • Do not touch prepared equipment, gloves or the prepped area unnecessarily.
  • Say something immediately if you feel dizzy, nauseated, faint, or experience unusual pain or distress.
  • Ask for a break when you need one. Breaks are normal.
  • Do not conceal a health issue that could affect your safety in the chair.
  • Do not pressure an artist to continue when the artist believes stopping is necessary.
